About Samoens - Ski Chalet Samoens in France
Owing to its prestigious heritage status and the strict conservation policy, there are very few modern buildings and structures to spoil the beauty of Samoens. The village has an air of antiquity about it and has retained it’s charm. Surrounded by great natural beauty, the village is also very beautiful. There are artistic fountains decorating the village squares; houses with an old world charm and picturesque cafés where you can enjoy a relaxed drink or meal. The pace of life is very tranquil and the people are friendly.
Every Wednesday there is a weekly market in the village center and is quite popular with tourists. All kinds of traditional and authentic items are out for sale in the market. You can shop for some good souvenirs- choose from the range including textiles, handicrafts and other sundry traditional stuff.

These historic villages together with Samoens form one of the largest ski areas in the world. Both Morrilon and Sixt fer a Chavel are just as historic as Samoens. The landscape here is very pretty; with stunning natural limestone and mineral formations to explore. |
You can go for a trip of these village in your hired car- the drive there is very short, or the resort bus will take you there for free. Guided tours are offered for the villages which will take you through the important highlights and cultural aspects of rural life in the French Alps. Morillon offers a nice lake with several activities around.
You also have nice pastures accessible by chairlift. And Sixt Fer a Cheval has Sixt has the largest Natural Reserve of Haute-Savoie (from 700 meters to 3100 meters high)- spread over 9200 hectares. You can enjoy some great skiing on slopes right in the heart of the nature reserve.
Flaine:
Flaine is the central and main resort of the Grand Massif ski area. The resort is divided into two sections of mainly self catered apartments and studios - Flaine Forum has most of the shops at 1600 m and Flaine Foret at 1700 m . Both are directly connected by free lifts for pedestrians and pistes for the skiers. Flaine is a P'tits Montagnards resort (family resort) which is car free, car access is allowed to unload. There is ample of free parking outside the town area, again linked to the free ski bus service.
Morillon:
With a rich history, you will see 500-year-old homes and houses. Its a popular summer and winter family holiday destination like all the other villages.
Morillon has a Poma telecabine that departs from just outside the village and links up to the Grand Massif ski area consisting of 265km of ski runs over the five resorts of Morillon, Samoens, Flaine, Les Carroz, and Sixt. Only an hour’s drive from Geneva Airport, this resort has very easy access.
Samoens:
Samoens is one of the most traditional and historical village and it also has the distinction of being the only official Monument historique (Historical Monument) Village in France. Samoens is also famous for its traditional stonecutters who have created superb buildings and structures in their architectural styles.
The picturesque village is a favourite holiday destination with plenty to do and see in both the in winters and summers.
Sixt:
Sixt offers close-to-nature skiing in a wild landscape - a "Grand Site" of France. Sixt is known to be among the "most beautiful villages of France". This charming village shares the superb natural beauty and excellent snow conditions of the grand massif. Les Carroz
Whilst being a well-known winter ski resort, Les Carroz has a thriving village community all year round. Sitting on a mountain plateau at 1140m, surrounded by majestic mountains, this typical Savoyard village with many cosy bars and restaurants offers a really warm welcome to its many visitors.
